Biography

Kandy was born in Los Angeles and was accepted into art school at age twelve. She spent her summer vacations painting with oils alongside adults before studying with August Lennox during her high school years.  Discovered by Nina Blanchard at eighteen, she worked as a model in Los Angeles and New York.  She then moved Upstate where she began a family while continuing to study painting at SUNY. Eight years in New York State's glorious countryside rendered a body of work for Kandy, ranging from portraits to wildlife to barns.

Her return to Los Angeles in 1976 began a career in the motion picture industry as a Set Designer, Art Director, Production Designer and Producer.

Having studied drafting she started in the industry working as a Set Designer on the television series The Waltons, Eight Is Enough, and The Dukes of Hazzard at Warner Brothers. Then moved into feature films as a Set Designer on California Suite, I Ought To Be In Pictures, Max Dugan Returns. Two Of A Kind, Sweet Dreams, 2010, Bladerunner, 1941,The Main Event, My Favorite Year, and Flashdance.

Kandy advanced to Art Direction and Production Design with TV movies, Passions, John and Yoko: A Love Story, The Marla Hansen Story, Amityville: The Evil Escapes, Shattered Innocence and Miracles. She was Art Director on films The Morning After, Presidio, and Post Cards From The Edge.

Writing and producing was the next adventure for Kandy. She pitched a story to NBC, Deception: A Mother's Secret, which she produced, followed with Jericho Fever and Shoot My Head.

In 1991 her interest in Eastern philosophy beckoned her to India to study meditation, which impacted her work and her life profoundly. Through meditation she experienced indelible inner visions and in 1994 her work transformed from realistic wildlife painting to the surreal portrayal of her exhilarating inner world. Says Kandy: "These visions are so awe-inspiring, sometimes in Meditation I can hardly catch my breath. I get so exhilarated and I just want to share my inner world with my outer one."

Deeply into Yoga and meditation, Kandy spent less time working in film and more time painting and studying computer graphics. She was hired as graphic designer for the television series Birds of Prey at Warner Brothers and went on to create graphics and paintings for Revenge of the Middle-Aged-Woman and others.

She kept her hand in Production Design with The Dukes of Hazzard: The Beginning, Art Direction Arrested Development, and TV pilots Chris Kattan, Nobody's Watching, and The Middle.

Kandy's travel to India inspired her to paint the beauty of the Adivasi people and their surroundings.

Kandy retired from the film industry and spends her time traveling, painting, and creating pencil drawings and portraits.  "My love of animals and children makes drawing them a heartfelt experience.  As the eyes and face appear in my drawing, I feel that the subject is alive looking back at me and there is a special connection between us."
